Submissions for the 2014 Kitschies are now open, and will close on 1 December 2014.
The Kitschies celebrate progressive, intelligent and entertaining books that contain elements of the speculative or fantastic. All submissions should keep these criteria in mind.
Please read the details below carefully and contact us before submitting your book(s). We will provide you with the addresses and/or shipping details required.
All queries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is no submission fee for The Kitschies, nor is there a limit on the number of titles than be submitted from each publisher or auther. However we do request that publishers keep our criteria in mind and not send us their entire catalog. We also prefer to receive books as they are published, rather than in a single batch at the end of the year.
We are happy to accept either physical or electronic copies of submitted titles. The judges will require a total of 5 physical copies (or 1 DRM-free eBook) of any book submitted for the Red or Golden Tentacles and 1 physical copy of any book submitted for the Inky Tentacle.
We also encourage the judging panel to call in titles.
The closing date for The Kitschies is 1 December annually. There are no exceptions. For books published between 2 and 31 December, we are happy to accept advance or proof copies.
Thank you very much for supporting The Kitschies.
Red Tentacle (Novel)
Only novels first published in the United Kingdom between 1 January and 31 December 2014 are eligible for submission for the Red Tentacle. eBook-only submissions are eligible, as long as they were first published in this calendar year and available in Great Britain.
Golden Tentacle (Debut)
Only novels first published in the United Kingdom between 1 January and 31 December 2014 are eligible for the Golden Tentacle. eBook-only submissions are eligible, as long as they were first published in this calendar year.
Additionally, a book is only eligible for the Golden Tentacle if it is the author's first novel in any genre and under any name. The author may have previously published short stories, non-fiction, screenplays and collections.
Inky Tentacle (Cover Art)
Inky Tentacle submissions must be books published in the United Kingdom between 1 January and 31 December 2014.
Unlike the other categories, anthologies, collections and novellas are eligible for this prize, as are reprints and paperback editions, as long as the cover is new for the edition submitted.
All submissions for the Inky Tentacle must include the name or names of the artists and designers involved.
Invisible Tentacle (Digital)
Invisible Tentacle submissions are for works that are natively digital (i.e. not just an ebook).
Invisible Tentacle submissions must be published in the United Kingdom between 1 January and 31 December 2014. We recognise that "Published in Great Britain" is a slippery definition for this category.
All submissions for the Invisible Tentacle must include the name or names of the artists and designers involved.
All submissions for the Invisible Tentacle should include URLs and, if appropriate or required, login details for at least six (6) users.
All Invisible Tentacle (Digital) submissions, and any questions, to: email@example.com.
Black Tentacle (Judges' Discretion)
Please do not send submit recommendations for the Black Tentacle. It is selected at the discretion of The Kitschies' board.
